Thunderhead Lodge, perched atop the Gondola in Steamboat Springs, CO, offers an exhilarating combination of stunning views and a diverse menu that caters to both winter sports enthusiasts and casual diners alike. Renowned for its shared plates like Nachos, Dry Rubbed Chicken Wings, and a delightful Hummus Trio, this restaurant invites guests to unwind after an active day on the slopes.
The main menu features standout items such as the Thunderhead Burger and The Classy Vegan, ensuring there's something for every palate. Customers rave about the quality of the food, especially the pizza and fresh salads, while also appreciating the vibrant atmosphere and bar access. However, some recent reviews point to a notable increase in prices, consistent with Steamboat's reputation for upscale dining.
While drink options have faced some scrutiny, particularly the famed Bloody Marys, the lodge remains a popular choice for its relaxed vibe and photogenic scenery. As Amanda Roland noted, despite its busyness, the experience is enjoyable, making Thunderhead Lodge a must-visit destination, whether you ski or simply want to enjoy breathtaking mountain views with good food.

Reviews for Thunderhead Lodge
Review highlights
Based on 441 reviewsThunderhead Lodge is widely praised for its stunning mountain views and diverse dining options, making it a popular destination for skiers and visitors alike. The food quality is consistently noted as above average, with standout dishes like pizza and fresh salads receiving positive mentions. Guests also appreciate the lively atmosphere, including bar access and on-site entertainment such as concerts and photography services. However, the lodge tends to be busy and priced at a premium, which some guests find justified given the unique location but others regard as somewhat overpriced. A common critique involves recent changes to drink offerings, particularly the perceived decline in signature cocktails. Overall, Thunderhead Lodge remains a sought-after spot for both meals and social experiences on the mountain.
Busy busy busy but still an enjoyable experience. It's at the top of the Gondola and there are a few different food options. Great views and good food from our experience. Pretty pricey and very busy but still overall a good experience.
Where to start... Wide range of food to select from after a hard day of skiing. Dont ski? Still a great place to hang with Bar access and beautiful views! Pro photographers at the ready, plus 2 concert venues on site!! See ya next year
Amazing views - decent eats, good drinks - all a little overpriced even for Steamboat. I will say, I was impressed at the quality of food at this monopolistic venue. The drinks were good and you're pretty much willing to spend anything to justify your $45 ride up the mountain.
Recently had lunch at Thunderhead Lodge. The views were stunning and the food was great. Several people in our group had the pizza and said it was very good (we live in Chicago and we know pizza), the Strawberry salad was very good as was the hummus platter. Would definitely recommend. Can’t wait to return!
We all were so excited to get the famous bloody Mary’s but SO disappointed they downgraded their drinks. Here’s a picture from 2 yrs ago, then today 2025. It was one drink we were all looking forward to! What happened?! Bring them back!
The Bloody Mary’s are amazing. Bartenders are phenomenal and fast. Seating is difficult during lunch but the food options are great. You can take the gondola up and down if you don’t ski. Beautiful views and strong drinks.
Great views up and down the mountain! Cool place to chill with a drink and snack after carving it up on the slopes.
The Thunderhead Lodge food court features absolutely gorgeous views, and several dining options. It's a grab-and-go style where you can order at one of three counters with several menus. They have pizza, burgers, fancy grilled cheeses, chicken tenders, Thai and Korean bowls, noodles, Mac n cheese, etc... There is a lot of variety but everything is extraordinarily expensive. My husband asked for his burger medium rare and the cook said "I only make medium-well burgers". I gave four stars because the food and atmosphere are great, but the cost is a little high and the service, not very friendly.
